Paula Steige of Macdonald Book Shop presents a $2,000 donation form the Rocky Card to
Mary Mesropian, director of Estes Valley Victim Advocates.
With strong Rocky Card sales at the end of 2012, Debra Dullaghan and Anne Smith, owners of Estes Park’s Rocky Card Inc., were able to make another charitable donation. This time, $2,000 was given to Estes Valley Victim Advocates.
In its 25th year, Estes Valley Victim Advocates is committed to providing advocacy services to victims of crime and trauma including safehousing for domestic violence victims, counseling, referrals and community education. All services are provided free of charge.
The Rocky Card’s donation will be used to help fund some of the organization’s children’s programs, specifically therapeutic games, books and toys, according to director Mary Mesropian. “We are very excited to be recipients of this wonderful gift from the Rocky Card.”
Paula Steige, owner of Macdonald Book Shop in Estes Park and enthusiastic supporter of the Rocky Card program, was proud to present the donation to Mesropian. Macdonald Book Shop has been a member of the Rocky Card since its inception and also sells Rocky Cards.
Estes Valley Victim Advocates relies on grants and donations for its operating costs. Financial donations are always welcomed, as well as household items such as towels, blankets, and small toiletry items for the residents of their safehouse and their outreach clients. The Rocky Card has been giving to nonprofit organizations since 2008, with the goal of each donation being to make a difference within the community that supports their efforts.
The premise behind the Rocky Card is that local businesses who are Rocky Card members attract customers by offering discounts or other incentives to cardholders. Visitors and Estes Park locals purchase a Rocky Card for $10 to access the discounts, and Dullaghan and Smith donate the profits from the sale of the cards to local charities.
Merchants who participate in the Rocky Card program agree that the Rocky Card has improved sales, gained customer awareness, and provided local charities with much-needed funds. With the Rocky Card, everybody wins!
Rocky Cards may be purchased from many merchants around Estes Park, including The Village Store at National Park Village, Estes Park Mountain Shop, Estes Park True Value & Radio Shack, Rocky Mountain Gateway, the Estes Park Visitors Center, and Safeway.
